Large Delegation Attends SARSCENE 2005 in Charlottetown

The fourteenth annual search and rescue workshop was held in Charlottetown, PEI,, October 5-8, 2005.

Organized by the National Search and Rescue Secretariat (NSS), and co-hosted by the Emergency Measures Organization of PEI, SARSCENE 2005 attracted more than 600 delegates from Canada, the US and beyond. The four-day event included training courses, meetings, games, demonstrations and exhibits and about 70 presentations. The event closes with the presentation of the 2005 Outstanding Search and Rescue Achievement Award and Certificates of Merit.

Approximately 25 delegates from across Newfoundland and Labrador traveled to Charlottetown, PEI for SARSCENE 2005. This represented the largest provincial delegation present outside of PEI.

The delegates took in a variety of SAR presentations and demonstrations. One of the highlights was the 2005 SARGAMES. The Avalon North Wolverines fielded a team in these games and put in an excellent effort and gained valuable experience for next years games in Gatineau, Quebec. Many delegates were also impressed with the trade show in which many companies were showcasing the latest equipment and technology for use in the SAR field.

Harry Blackmore, Vaughn Bennett and Brian Avery gave a joint presentation on Phase II of the new training and proficiency standards and Boating Safety Partnership Model. The presentation was well received and received good reviews.

Congratulations to all participants
