Large Delegation Attends SARSCENE 2004 in Calgary, Alberta
The thirteenth annual search and rescue workshop was held in Calgary, Alberta, October 13-16, 2004. It included four days of presentations, demonstrations, a tradeshow, SARGames, training sessions and an awards banquet.
Co-hosted by the National Search and Rescue Secretariat and the Search and Rescue Association of Alberta, SARScene 2004 kicked off on October 13th with the 8th annual SARScene games and demonstrations
Over 600 participants from air, land and marine organizations from across Canada, and around the world attended the event. New this year was presentations highlighting search and rescue in the West; combined games and demonstrations in one day; all presentation rooms close to the tradeshow; and a fundraising showcase to highlight best practices.
Approximately 20 delegates from across Newfoundland and Labrador traveled to Calgary, Alberta for SARScene 2004. This represented the largest provincial delegation present outside of Alberta.
The delegates took in a variety of SAR presentations and demonstrations. One of the highlights was the 2004 SARGames.Many delegates were also impressed with the trade show in which many companies were showcasing the latest equipment and technology for use in the SAR field.
On Friday, Harry Blackmore and Vaughn Bennett gave a presentation on the new training and proficiency standards and Boating Safety Partnership Model. The presentation was well received and received good reviews.
