Office of Boating Safety Moves to Transport Canada
On December 12, 2003, the Federal Government, through an Order in Council (OIC), consolidated all policy and regulations related to marine safety and security under the Minister of Transport. Included in this consolidation was the transfer of the Office of Boating Safety (OBS) from the Canadian Coast Guard to Transport Canada.
This transfer now provides all mariners with a single point of contact for marine policy. This move should be transparent to the marine community and to the partners who work with OBS to promote safety in the recreational boating community.
OBS will continue to provide assistance and support to the NLSARA Teams by providing the necessary tools, resources, training and support, in order to facilitate the delivery of the boating safety program.
