Harry Blackmore Receives 2004 Certificate of Achievement and Elected President of SARVAC
Six individuals and organizations from across Canada were honoured for their outstanding contributions to Canadian search and rescue efforts with the distribution of the 2004 Certificates of Achievement at SARScene 2004.
Harry Blackmore has been active in the Newfoundland and Labrador Search and Rescue Association for 32 years, and has been President for the past 12 years.
Harry has brought numerous changes to search and rescue in Newfoundland and Labrador and has raised the standard of service to a new level. The Newfoundland and Labrador Search and Rescue Association are usually tasked to respond to 60 to 100 searches a year. Under Harry's leadership, 27 search teams comprised of over 900 men and women, have provided a lifeline to the residents of Newfoundland and Labrador. Harry's time and expertise have contributed to an unprecedented level of commitment and cooperation between local search teams and the Canadian Coast Guard, the Office of Boating Safety, the RCMP and the RNC.
As a member of the National Boating Council and Recreational Boating Council, Harry's involvement is influencing others to spread the prevention message. Harry has played a pivotal role in convincing the teams in Newfoundland and Labrador to adopt a community-based approach to prevention.
His dedication has transformed the Association into a strong organization with high standards of service, which contributes significantly to the number of lives saved.
