Team Newfoundland and Labrador Third at SARGames 2004

The 8th annual SARScene Games were a feature event for SARScene 2004. Held at Fort Calgary and St. Patrick's Island in Calgary on October 13, the games brought four Canadian teams together to compete in various search and rescue (SAR) events.

Exploits, the winning team at the Newfoundland and Labrador Ground Search and Rescue Association games, represented the province at the SARScene games.

Following a day of fierce competition the Toronto HUSAR Team defended its title as overall champion, followed by Foot Hills Search andRescue in second place, in third place Newfoundland and Labrador Search and Rescue and in fourth place was a team from Moosejaw, Saskatchewan.

The competition involved the completion of six activities:

  • Search Management (Table top exercise)
  • Navigation (Map and compass skills over a pre-determined course).
  • Emergency Scene Management/Medical (Boat accident with casualties).
  • Evidence/Clue Search (Lost child scenario)
  • Relay Event (4 timed activities): 12 General SAR questions, knot tying, map knowledge, shelter building (One armed).
  • Detection Skills (Locating pre-positioned clues)
